I saw a hand doctor for my recent fall.
Diagnosis?
Hairline fracture of my left ring finger. Two badly sprained fingers.
The doc said she would have told me to do exactly what I did: ice, rest, buddy-tape. (Except for that deadlifting session but we’re not going to talk about that today.)
The Part That Sucked
But here’s the part that matters (other than when she squeezed my fingers in different spots and I almost jumped out of my chair).
She said this:
“No lifting anything over 10 lbs with that hand for the next six weeks.”
And I heard this:
“Good luck with the sadness, kid.”

Why That Sucked To Me
Most people enjoy the opportunity to rest, or so I’ve heard — I have not experienced that feeling a bunch. For most of my life, I’ve self-medicated with exercise.
The barbell has saved my life so many times that it should get a co-pay.
