I live in a very blue area - Northern VA just outside of DC. My elected Congressional reps are all Democrats. My local state representatives are Democrats. I’ve used my vote in every way I can. Now what? Letter writing campaigns? To who? Outside of showing up at protests, I’m at a loss as to what I can do peacefully to create change. Maybe I’ve just lost all my creativity in the depression as I’ve watched the collective conscious of this nation plummet in free fall over the past decade.
Great question, Emily. I find myself in a similar situation in Seattle – and it's frustrating!
I don't have the answer but I write, I talk to those with different viewpoints who will still listen, and I donate to organizations like Robert Reich's Inequality Media – because effective communication is the number one issue going forward. Dems don't have good marketing and they don't have the social platforms. Propaganda is already proliferating in the government. And I continue to think that talking is important. One day, our nation will wake up. We saw it in the summer of 2020. It can happen again. But I can also understand how demoralized many folks are right now. But maybe this is halftime, not the end of the game. Take a breather. Get some snacks. And get ready to go again.

At least the new regime is good for my vocabulary; I have added a new word to my lexicon. Kakistocracy. https://www.lawfaremedia.org/article/the-constitution-of-kakistocracy
Yes! Word of the year! Rule by the worst. Ugh.
